Tell us the reasons why you were looking at interactive screen technology.

Our AV technology had reached it’s end of life and we didn’t feel replacing with more of the same would give good value for money due to the high running costs of the projectors with replacement bulbs etc… so we commissioned a strategic review around technology adoption and best practice within the school.

The review identified that we weren’t getting the best use of our technology and our teachers couldn’t maximise their output from whiteboarding software, finding it difficult to get time to attend training sessions. In addition, we felt that training costs were too high to maintain constantly and the overarching result was that the teachers were ‘making do’ with the technology they had available to them. It felt as though we were wasting money so we made the decision to look at alternative offerings.


As a school we are moving towards further cloud adoption, which means we will soon reach a stage where we will be using cloud tools instead of software installed locally on devices, therefore we were specifically interested in touch screen technology which didn’t require complex and in-depth adoption training. We therefore needed to ensure that any product that was selected fitted into the school’s long term strategies without any wasted capital. This was made more relevant as our school faced a bulge intake of Year 7 students in September 16 which meant that our teaching staff no longer had dedicated classrooms, all teaching areas needed to have interactive technology installed which is simple to use and didn’t require in-depth training for our staff.

Why did you choose the Avocor interactive display solution?

We knew that we wanted ‘walk up and use’ technology with no additional requirements for extra training. Our reseller partner, Just Communications, recommended the Avocor displays for education to us and when we saw them, we knew we had found the right solution for the John Colet School.
The thing we love most about the panels is that there is no hidden costs around training or software. The teaching staff literally turn on the panel, touch the screen and start using it as a giant 65” tablet on the wall. It really is as easy as that, 3 steps and the staff are fully functional and ready to get teaching.

What are the benefits that you have experienced from installing the screens?

Less time is wasted on getting classroom technology working, meaning that teachers can spend more time actually teaching. We don’t feel as though we are wasting budgets, there is the initial outlay in terms of costs and that’s it, no annual software licencing costs or software adoption training courses for the teachers to go on.
